“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

-Jeremiah 29:11-13

The Lord has plans for us, and like all things God does, they are good. The apostle Paul reminds us that our present sufferings will not compare with the glory that God has in store. And yet all this can sound like little more than wishful thinking to us when we are in the midst of the awful trials that befall us here on earth. Our feelings may not match these promises. However, our feelings are not the best guide for truth. Something can be true and not feel true, and something can feel false and actually be true.

And so we must not trust in our feelings, but trust in the promises. And how can we know that the promises are reliable? Because the promises are made by God and rooted in the very character and nature of our perfect, holy, and loving Jesus. This is Trust 101: learning to trust God even over our feelings. It is not an easy class, and it lasts a lifetime. But the rewards, as promised, are beyond our wildest dreams.

Thank you Jesus!

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Matthew
